As a boat owner, you must be aware of a certain responsibility you have towards nature and its preservation. Your vessel is a big consumer of fuel, a huge producer of garbage and a large releaser of toxic chemicals. It is your duty to ensure your boat is as ‘green’ as possible. This means you need to ensure lower fuel consumption, have a system for your garbage and make sure your speed boat antifouling does not release too many dangerous substances into our precious oceans.

Lower Fuel Consumption and Manage Your Garbage

Try not using too much fuel, which you can do simply by measuring its usage or by using mainly your sails instead of your engine. Managing your garbage is also quite an easy task. Just make sure you have an effective system with an assigned place to put your garbage when you are on the boat and when you get off the boat. It is, however, important that you never throw your trash overboard. This is exactly the kind of thing we are trying to avoid.

Do Not Release Toxic Chemicals into the Ocean

With traditional speed boat antifouling, there are a lot of chemicals that are gradually released into the ocean, poisoning its animal and plant species. The biggest problem is the infamous copper, which is present in the majority of speed boat antifouling paints and is currently contaminating a large portion of our ports. If you want to be greener, you should stay away from copper-based coats of paint and exchange it for electronic antifouling. Electronic antifouling will make your life easier because a machine will do your antifouling for you and it will be much kinder to the environment. So, do not wait another day and try electronic antifouling as soon as possible.
